Flag Retirement

American Legion Post 137 offers a free flag retirement service to the community. This service is a dignified and proper way to retire worn or damaged U.S. Flags.

It is not proper to dispose of the U.S. flag in ANY other way!

The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags was approved through Resolution No.440, by the National Convention of The American Legion meeting in New York, New York, September 20-23, 1937. See pictures of the ceremony being conducted at Post 137 in our Photo Albums secion.

How will you retire my flag? See the complete step-by-step ceremony detailed in the document below:

American Legion Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags   [ SCRIPT ]

If you have a U.S. flag that is ready for retirement please Contact Us and we will ensure 'Old Glory' is retired in an honorable manner befitting her.
