Commander Fred Bergman, a native of Jacksonville attended Terry Parker High School. His military career began in 1968 and extended to 2003. After living in Illinois for the past twenty years, Fred returned to the Jacksonville area in 2004 and settled in Orange Park. Three of his four children and their families have also made the move to Orange Park to enjoy the sunshine. Fred also has a son on active duty in the Navy stationed in Japan with his wife and two children. Fred and his wife Lina have been married 34 years and are proud Grandparents of six girls and one boy.
A 20-year Legionnaire, he has served as Post 137 Adjutant, Service Officer, and Blood Donation Chairman. He has also served as 5th District Adjutant, Finance Officer, and Blood Chairman. He has attended the Legion Institute, District commander course, Post Commander course. Service Officer Course, and Adjutant course, his educational background includes a Bachelor degree in Public Administration and a Masters degree in Health Care Management. He is a member of the Legion Riders and Forty and Eight.
Fred was an enlisted Naval Weather Forecaster from 1968 until 1979 when he was accepted to Navy Officer Candidate School receiving a commission as an Ensign. His assignments included; USS Shangri-LA, USS Forrestal, USS Patterson, NAS Jacksonville, Fleet Weather Facility Suitland MD, NAS Cubi PT, RP, Military Entrance Processing Station, Albany NY, US Military Entrance Processing Command, Great Lakes IL. He retired from the Navy in 1989 as a Lieutenant (03-E) and he immediately began an Army Civilian career as a Hospital Administrator retiring from the Army in 2003.
